I read The Battle of Jericho by Sharon M. Draper this weekend. This is a young adult book. I read a lot of YA books so I can make recommendations to my students. It takes place in a high school in Cincinnati in the dead of winter. For the most part the characters are African American and affluent. The story or should I say tragedy revolves around a 50 year tradition where an elite group of students are selected to pledge an exclusive club called Warriors of Distinction. As you read, you will find yourself holding your breath hoping what you think can happen won’t. ( )
