One of those children books that appeal to adults' taste, while young children give mixed reviews. Some toddlers loved to look at the book and hear my interpretation of the various adjectives, most of them did not get the illustrations (and tried to eat the pages, of course). Older children who were able to understand the drawings found the text too simple. Not my favourite, but a pleasant book to read together during circle time with preschoolers, using it as a provocation for collective reflections on the meaning of the various adjectives. There was a lot of fun, there, but I had to do most of the hard work catching their attention and stimulating their curiosity, where other books hook the children instantly, as if they had a life on their own. toddler/preschool picture book (animals, alike/different)
simple, short text accompanied by beautiful illustrations of many animals both familiar and less so (key is in the back). I have a feeling the kids will be drawn to the pages (and will want to come up and touch them), so this may work better as a one-on-one than for a large storytime crowd. ( )

Book description
This gorgeous follow-up to the Caldecott Honor–winning They All Saw a Cat explores another aspect of seeing the world for young children. Beginning with two cats, one black and one white, a chain of animals appears before the reader, linked together by at least one common trait. From simple colors and shapes to more complex and abstract associations, each unexpected encounter celebrates the magnificent diversity of our world—and ultimately paints a story of connection.
