This book is definitely very cute, and Emmett had a lot of fun squashing the duckie, and my only concern is that it lays it on a bit thick--"duckie is shy," "you are duckie's only friend"--and Emmett is not so very far away from the age when he might potentially feel all guilty for wanting to read a different book instead and why is this manipulative stuff needed ever? This not a great book, actually, but when my baby girl was about five months old it was her favorite, just for the novelty factor. You stick your finger through the yellow duckling hand puppet that sticks out through a hole in the middle of the pages, and waggle it around while you read. She would giggle hysterically whenever we she played peek-a-boo with her duckie. As for the book itself, the story is kind of dull and the illustrations are muted colors and very plain. It's all about the gimmick here. ( )
