"The latest in the New York Times and USA Today bestselling Dewey Andreas series. North Korea, increasingly isolated from most of the rest of the world, is led by an absolute dictator and a madman with a major goal--he's determined to launch a nuclear attack on the United States. While they have built, and continue to successfully test nuclear bombs, North Korea has yet to develop a ballistic missile with the range necessary to attack America. But their missiles are improving, reaching a point where the U.S. absolutely must respond. What the U.S. doesn't know is that North Korea has made a deal with Iran. In exchange for effective missiles from Iran, they will trade nuclear triggers and fissionable material. An exchange, if it goes through, that will create two new nuclear powers, both with dangerous plans. Dewey Andreas, still reeling from recent revelations about his own past, is ready to retire from the CIA. But he's the only available agent with the skills to carry out the CIA's plan to stop North Korea. The plan is to inject a singular designer poison into the head of the North Korean military and in exchange for the nuclear plans, provide him with the one existing dose of the antidote. But it goes awry when Dewey manages to inject a small amount of the poison into himself. Now, to survive, Dewey must get into North Korea and access the antidote and, while there, thwart the nuclear ambitions of both North Korea and Iran. And he has less than 24 hours to do so--in the latest thriller from Ben Coes"--… (more)

Too far fetched. ( )

Ben Coes! I wanted to scream while reading this book. What a roller coaster ride that was, I almost had a heart attack in every chapter that Dewey appears whether it was the Iranian or the old North Korean general (6'2"? c'mon now....) then again at the apartment in Pyongyang. This is what I called action packed from start to end. I have so many questions about Jenna, I'm guessing we'll find out next year? ( )

This book was advertised as being a thriller and while I realize you need to suspend disbelief at some point in all thrillers this one was over the top in that department. Come on, the guy has been poisoned with a fast acting posion that will kill him in 24 hours and yet he manages to infiltrate North Korea and with less than the 24 hours left to live, leaps from a helicopter targeted by a missile with out opening his parachute, hits the ground, gets up starts running and does 31 miles before stopping for a drink which is when he checks in with the CIA? I felt rather than being a thriller it was a Marvel Superhero Comic in serious book form ( )

Bloody Sunday follows on from where Trap The Devil left off, the hero of the story, Dewey Andreas, is disillusioned and needs a break, once again however he is drawn back into the fray and sent to China to intercept a North Korean general, and so the story begins.

I really enjoy this series but found this one was a bit off, the Dewey being dragged in unwillingly for a 'simple' mission where something goes wrong expanding into a larger narrative is kind of what happened in the last book as well. It felt like the author was running out of direction for the Dewey character, more so with the introduction of a new character Jenna which was a bit mysterious and laying ground work for a future book with the subplot finishing unresolved. I also felt like the end of the book was a bit preachy about US foreign policy intentions - it's a action thriller not US propaganda.

There was also the editing error of "He switched out mugs on this pistols as he looked down on the street." Mugs hey?

Thus, in my opinion, books 1-7 were superior to this one. That's not to say this was bad, it just wasn't up to the usual standard. I hope the quality picks back up for the next one. ( )

Dewey Andreas, reeling from the discovery of the true nature of his wife’s death, is calling it quits. But a plea from President Dellenbaugh has him agreeing to one last mission.

Having made a secret deal with Iran that will make both countries nuclear powers, North Korea sets out to exact revenge on the United States. A plan unfolds, but an accident leaves Dewey struggling to stay alive as he searches for a way across the closed borders of North Korea to stop a devastating nuclear attack before time runs out.

With all the expected characters in place, this narrative, the eighth in the Dewey Andreas saga, is a fast-paced thriller, intense in its unfolding and building in suspense as the twists and turns reveal new threats. Readers of the series will find much to appreciate in this high-octane thriller; those new to Dewey’s exploits are likely to find this thrill ride filled with excitement and edge-of-the-seat tension.

Highly recommended. ( )
