This is the first book in the series since the start of the original "Fablehaven" that is really even comes close to a 4-star (as opposed to 5). Things just feel a touch more slapdash and less streamlined; there are multiple little moments and scenes happening that, while interesting and still creative, just don't mesh together as fluidly as the other books. It almost feels like there are parts that are one-shot scenes Mull wrote while coming up with ideas that somehow made the final cut.
However, I still ATE. IT. UP. Like, I've read this book before and I knew what happens, but I was still enchanted by what was happening. Mull just comes up with the most unique and outlandish things that each time I'm impressed by the plot points, characters, creatures, and little magical delights.

I really enjoyed this read. I found this to be a great sequel. I thought this book was a great fast pace adventure read. It was such a great middle grade that really dived into the elements of politices and I loved it. I also really loved how the cast of the immediate crew expanded. I also loved how this book focused on so many creatures and animals. It was such a prefect spring read. I thought the ending was surpising. I can't wait to read book 3! ( )

These two protagonist constantly get into trouble and this time they drag their cousins in in the fun. Though it is based upon the dragons gaining control of the perserve that our kiddies are caretakers for, the same twists and roller coaster ride that was brought to us by Fabelhaven still keeps us on a never ending journey.
I love this series and this new spin off series. it light, but with unforseen. twists. you can't help but hate the bad decisions these kids make. ( )
