In the vein of Big Little Lies and Reconstructing Amelia comes an "atmospheric, absorbing page-turner" (Heather Gudenkauf, New York Times bestselling author) about a mother unraveling the truth behind how her daughter became brain dead. And pregnant.
A search for the truth. A lifetime of lies.

In the small hours of the morning, Abi Knight is startled awake by the phone call no mother ever wants to get: her teenage daughter Olivia has fallen off a bridge. Not only is Olivia brain dead, she's pregnant and must remain on life support to keep her baby alive. And then Abi sees the angry bruises circling Olivia's wrists.

When the police unexpectedly rule Olivia's fall an accident, Abi decides to find out what really happened that night. Heartbroken and grieving, she unravels the threads of her daughter's life. Was Olivia's fall an accident? Or something far more sinister?

In this "complex, emotionally intense first novel" (Publishers Weekly), USA TODAY bestselling author Christina McDonald weaves a suspenseful and heartwrenching tale of hidden relationships, devastating lies, and the power of a mother's love. This book tells the story of the night Olivia fell and the events that led up to her fall. The book starts out with Abi, Olivia's mother, getting a phone call in the middle of the night with a man telling her that there's been an accident involving Olivia, her 17-year-old daughter.

The story unfolds with each chapter alternating between Abi and Olivia. Abi's story goes through her unraveling the mystery of what happened to Olivia and the events that led up to her fall. Olivia's story goes through her discovery of who her father is (a secret her mother kept from her) and leads up to her fall.

There is some tying up of loose ends at the end of the book but it did leave me wanting more loose ends tied up. ( )

What happen to Olivia?

Sometimes I think belonging to all the book subscription sites is a bad thing because who has time to read all these books right???? In my case if it had not been for one of those said subscriptions, I would not have found this gem or this author. Christina McDonald had me hooked from the very first few pages to the very last. The Night Olivia Fells opens with a scene of which no one wants to relate. Abi Knight receives a phone call that her teen daughter has been in a tragic accident and is in the hospital. Upon arriving, she learns that her daughter is not only brain dead, but also pregnant. Can you all see why I was hooked. Maybe it is because I am close to my mom but honestly how could you not know your child is pregnant? Hold your comments I know what year it is and my opinion still stands. The book is divided in two perspectives one being Abi who doesn’t believe her daughters accident is not really an accident. Then you have Olivia who gives us the descriptive picture of what occurred months before the fall, at some point the story merges beautifully to give you an awesome ending. Abi is out to prove that there was no way that this fall is as simple as the police is making it out to be. I don’t want to dive too much more into the story for fear of giving away the plot.
However, I will tell you what I did love is the character development. There was such authenticity to the characters that it made it such a better read. Each character brings something new to the story. I love that it is all grounded in reality. I love how each time a finger is pointed at a suspect you can picture the crime vividly in your minds eye. By the end of the book you will want to hug both Abi and Olivia for the tragedy that they both experience in their respective roles. Abi as a mother having to endure the loss of a child, and Olivia who is destined to never meet her child. I know that there are numerous people who found this book lacking I just do not happen to be one of them. I think that this is one of those books that I can recommend to anyone who likes thrillers or suspense without a problem. If you are looking to expand your book pile this is definitely a book worth your time. Personally, if it is in your TBR pile I suggest moving it up if at all possible.

This one completely drew me in! From page one, we know that Olivia has fallen from a bridge and suffered a terrible accident. The brain damage is so severe, the doctors offer little hope she will ever wake up. But then the doctors reveal a shocking secret to her mother Abby, who is reeling from this, and left alone and unable to move forward without answers, she has to find out what happened.

Told in dual timelines from Abby’s perspective after the accident, and Olivia’s in the month’s before, this is an intense and eerie read. You know Olivia’s fate is sealed from page one, and are sucked in alongside her mother trying to unravel the clues and figure out if something insidious happened to her, or if it was truly an accident. Lots of twists in this one and as we meet more characters and get closer to the truth, it just gets better and better.

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader.
