A collection of the Usagi Yojimbo comics in which the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles appear, spanning from 1987 to 2017. I just really love that this unlikely crossover (that works far more than it should) has persisted over the year. This is the first Usagi Yojimbo comic I've read, and I really like how expressive Stan Sakai's art is. ( )

This is a fun, if somewhat slight, collection of Usagi Yojimbo/TeenageThis is a fun, if somewhat slight, collection of Usagi Yojimbo/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossovers. Its a fun read, but one only needs to own it if one is either an Usagi or TMNT completist. I am an Usagi completist.

The stories themselves lend little to the overall Usagi story; making room for the turtles leaves space for little else. The standout story here is "Namazu" as it does the most to develop all the characters, and it features knockout colors by Tom Luth. It may be some of the best coloring from him I've ever seen.

There's a lengthy section at the back of the book featuring pinup and cover art and an extensive look at Sakai's creative process. I've worked professionally in comics since the '90s and this kind of behind-the-scenes stuff still pleases me. ( )
