"Can Coco and her friends pass their most harrowing test yet? Or will the nefarious Brimmed Caps end their journey towards witch-hood?! Now that Coco has been fully accepted into Qifrey's Atelier, it's time for her and her colleagues to move onto the next test: The Sincerity of the Shield. Passing the test involves escorting some feathery friends to their nesting grounds, which sounds simple enough, except that the path before the young witches is a winding road filled with ancient magical traps! The test must also be completed in a group, and there's one witch-in-training from outside of Qifrey's atelier who doesn't seem to have the confidence to make the cut. To top it all off, a Brimmed Cap lurks in the shadows, waiting to attack..."--Provided by publisher.… (more)

Oof. I thought that the earlier books were setting up the Brims as something more nuanced than "LIMITLESS POWAH" evildoers. The taboo against healing magic in particular feels like the kind of thing that well-intentioned people might go to terrible lengths to undo. But Eyehat is pretty... unambiguous. I'll keep reading, but my hopes for the series have suffered a blow. ( )

In Volume 4 of Witch Hat Atelier, Agott and Richeh take their second test with another apprentice who has failed it twice already. They run into trouble shortly into the test and must find a way to get out of it.

Richeh not studying magic but only making her own doesn’t quite make sense to me... how is she expecting to learn how to make the stuff she wants without learning how to make one similar first? We kind of get some background to it, but not a lot. I’m curious to see where her story line goes and how she grows as a witch.

I’m just glad I got the first 7 volumes at one time from my library because I’m going straight on to Volume 5 now. ( )

Series Info/Source: This is the fourth book in the Witch Hat Atelier series. I bought a copy of this book.

Story (5/5): This continues to be a really amazing story and series. Coco and her friends are ready to move onto their second test. The Sincerity of Shield, which involves journeying down a winding underground road filled with magical traps. However, when a Brimmed Cap shows up things start to turn sideways quickly. This was a fun and exciting story and I loved all the adventure and magic.

Characters (5/5): I continue to love all the characters in this series. In this book we meet another young male witch apprentice with some serious confidence issues. The mysterious Brimmed Caps also show up in the story some. I love how Qifrey continues to support his young apprentices and encourages them to embrace their strengths rather than dwell on their weaknesses.

Setting (5/5): This time we journey into a mysterious magical cave and it was amazing. So creative, interesting, exciting, and magical...I absolutely loved it.

Writing/Drawing Style (5/5): I continue to really love this series, it is so well done. The story is well done and the writing is never confusing or hard to follow. The illustration is absolutely beautiful. Every page is full of lush detail and I just enjoy looking at every illustration in here.

My Summary (5/5): Overall I continue to love this manga. It is amazing and one of my absolute favorite manga series right now. It’s just such a fun manga with a lot of adventure and magic and also a very positive vibe. The illustration is amazingly beautiful as well, I can’t wait to pick up the next book in the series! ( )

Oh, no! An evil agent of Voldemort the brimmed cap with an eyeball design attacks the friends of Harry Potter Coco during the O.W.L. "Sincerity of the Shield" exam. Nice art and good characters make up for the story not breaking any new ground. ( )
