I hate that this is over. ( )

ON the surface Adrian Montague has a bright future, he is due to inherit his family seat, he has had all the advantages but he also has some mental health issues that he has difficulties controlling and his mother has recently committed suicide, or so it seems. He has half of a spyglass that may or may not be from the Flying Dutchman and he's determined to find the truth of her earlier shipwreck.
A lot of the story is about the siblings and their mental health and it felt more like fantasy than historical. The voyages were interesting if a bit like token finding for the next stop. The two older siblings didn't feel much older than Adrian, it almost felt like it was shortly after the first two books rather than almost 20 years later.
Don't get me wrong, it was interesting I was just left feeling like I wanted more from this story. ( )

I really liked the finale to this series! I got a little overwhelmed with the detail of Adrian's anxiety with my own but it was a very detailed description of what it's like. ( )

An absolutely lovely read, and an excellent end to an excellent series. I pre-ordered this about a week after it went up for pre-order and it was so worth the wait.

The story itself is wonderful, the new characters are a pleasure to read about, and it's wonderful to check back in on old ones. I was grinning for most of reading this book.

The way the book depicts anxiety and mental illness is so relatable, and I kept quoting this to friends whom I talk about mental illness with to the point where I was just highlighting entire chapters and probably bookmarked over half the pages. It is beautiful, heart-breaking, and such a joy to read about it for validation purposes. Adrian is a wonderful character, and I love reading about his thoughts and struggles and relationships.

A great ending. A great series. ( )

Adrian discovers he has siblings - Monty and Felicity who have been disowned. It is interesting to see these characters as older and established when contrasted with Adrian who has had his whole life turned upside down, in his search for the mystery behind his mother. Adrian struggles with anxiety which actually makes the adventures even more enjoyable in that we get to see him succeed despite those challenges. ( )
