I love the fact that Emily Victoria was able to tell the entire story in one book, it made the book engaging and entertaining. I love that Karis picks up more companions as the story continues and makes some good and bad choices in her attempt to save her brother. I also love that Karis being aro-ace doesn't end up falling in love with Alex but I liked the romances happening with the supporting characters. Looking forward to reading more of Emily Victoria's books in the future. ( ) This was a fun, easy read. A feel good fantasy with plenty of swordfights and friendship. I liked the emphasis on friendship and family over romance, I liked Alix’s conflicted feelings about himself, the secondary characters and the fact that Karis was a protagonist with no battle skills who survived by determination, recklessness and bad mistakes. Sometimes there was a lot of telling instead of showing, but I really enjoyed this book. no reviews | add a review
"Orphaned and forced to serve her country's ruling group of scribes, Karis wants nothing more than to find her brother, long ago shipped away. But family bonds don't matter to the Scriptorium, whose sole focus is unlocking the magic of an ancient automaton army. In her search for her brother, Karis does the seemingly impossible--she awakens a hidden automaton. Intelligent, with a conscience of his own, Alix has no idea why he was made. Or why his father--their nation's greatest traitor--once tried to destroy the automatons. Suddenly, the Scriptorium isn't just trying to control Karis; it's hunting her. Together with Alix, Karis must find her brother...and the secret that's held her country in its power for centuries."--Amazon. No library descriptions found. |
