Great book with an ending i did not see coming. 12 year old Nadia wants to be a famous investigator/reporter like Lois Lane and is obsessed with super heroes. She lives in a cul-de- sac where she spies on everyone in her street like an investigative journalist would do. It is school holidays and there is no-one in her street to hang out with save a boy in her street who she loathes (she calls him Paddle Boy because he smashed her canoe paddle) . One day after a confrontation with said Paddle Boy, her dog falls into the drain and is in danger of being swept away. Suddenly another teenage boy appears out of nowhere and rescues the dog and before Nadia has a chance to thank him, he vanishes. Nadia sets out to discover where this Invisible boy has come from. She befriends him and eventually learns the shocking truth of his story.

SPOILER ALERT: The boy Eli is not homeless ( as I first thought) despite always wearing the same clothes and being underweight and scarred on his arms and legs. Eli is actually a trafficked boy - he is being kept to look after a rich woman's house on the threat of being sent back to his violent father.

The book has graphics in it where the Nadia, Eli and the Paddle boy all play the roles of superheroes. ( )
