Anna does boring things for terrible people because even criminals need office help and she needs a job. As a temp, she's just a cog in the machine. But when she finally gets a promising assignment, everything goes very wrong, and an encounter with the so-called 'hero' leaves her badly injured. So, of course, then she gets laid off. With no money and no mobility, with only her anger and internet research acumen, she discovers her suffering at the hands of a hero is far from unique. When people start listening to the story that her data tells, she realizes she might not be as powerless as she thinks. Because the key to everything is data: knowing how to collate it, how to manipulate it, and how to weaponize it.… (more)

audio fiction (14.25hrs) - bi/pan data-crunching henchwoman (Anna) finds her temp work contract cancelled after suffering a brutal injury from the hero Super-Collider, but that's just the start of chapter 1. --CW/TW: language, cartoonish violence, threat of knife violence (Junior's pinky finger will survive unscathed, but not before several stressful moments of suspense), gory violence..

Super Funny audiobook, so glad I finally picked this one up. Alex McKenna's narration is great with excellent comedic timing, though bestie June's voice can be annoying in larger doses (fortunately her part is relatively minor).

The audiobook is over 14 hours long, and I thought it might drag but actually I found myself savoring the experience. Can't wait for the author's next book (due out soon)! ( )

Loved this!

Totally unique, action packed, thought provoking.

Totally badass women, nerds, and misfits taking on societal problems and deciding what it really means to be good or evil.

Friendship, office politics, big business. It’s all there.

Very LGBTQ friendly characters.

Totally want this to be a TV series. ( )

I really enjoyed this one. Had more of The Boys about it than The Venture Bros, but comparisons to both could be made. It was dark, and went places I did not expect, but it worked hard to portray the villains as not in it for the sake of evil, but more as antagonists to those who labeled themselves as heroes. Anna was a great main character, I really enjoyed her point of view. She is an angry character, but not without merit, so she is a very sympathetic character. The other villains and heroes were interesting too. It was a smart, compelling take on superheroes and the collateral damage they cause. ( )

Walschots (Doom) gleefully blurs the line between heroes and villains in this hilarious peek behind the scenes of supervillains’ lairs.... Walschots playfully pokes at both office politics and comic book absurdity while offering gripping action and gut-wrenching body horror. The inventive premise, accessible heroine, and biting wit will have readers eager for more from this talented author.
