One day cricket began between English country teams on May 2, 1963. Leicestershire beat Derbyshire and Northamptonshir beat Nottinghamshire. The following year the first full-scale one-day competition was played, the knock-out Gillette Cup, won by Sussex. The first Limited Overs International match was in Melbourne, 1971.
