This book was cute. I liked the artwork, mostly, but the story felt a little flat. ( )

Frank and Kevin are two friends - a vampire and a vampire bat - who set sail for adventure together.

The art is well done but the story is not my favorite. The rhyming does not always flow and some of the scenes are bizarre - the depiction of pilgrims and indigenous Americans is a bit outdated and insensitive and there's some weird patriotism going on with them fighting in the American Revolution. I would have enjoyed the book more without those scenes.

Note: I received a free copy of this book from LibraryThing Early Reviewers. I was not compensated in any other fashion for the review and the opinions reflected below are entirely my own. Special thanks to the publisher and author for providing the copy. ( )

Sorry, I did not enjoy this book. It was ok, nice artwork, but the story didn't draw me in. but i don't think that I would spend part of my small budget to acquire it for our library. ( )

This book is a nice read-aloud for young children. With interesting word choice, a clearly laid out plot and a good message, The Best Vampire You Can Be is perfect for reading around Halloween. The short poetic form of the story also would be a good foundation for talking about rhyming words, poems and getting children interested in writing their own story!

I really enjoyed reading this funny children illustrated book. I’m a fan of comic and fantasy books, and i was happy to read such a cutely illustrated fantasy story. I absolutely recommend it to everyone who wants to read a cute story with a historical background. ( )
