I had listened to the audiobook version of this, not knowing it had started out as a webcomic. While I think it translated well enough, I wouldn't be able to tell you what any of the characters look like. It very much focused on the magic system and the main character leveling up in stats which was great as I mostly listened to this while taking hikes at the local park near me. As I'd get to hear sound effects denoting the main character killing another monster or him adding more points to the strength category. As in it was truly immersive. Overall I did enjoy it and still remember most of what happened plot wise which is good cause that's usually the biggest issue I have listening to audiobooks and this did take me a month or two to get through.

That said, I'll probably read the print version as a reread so I can get a better grasp of what the characters look like. ( )

There is nothing ground-breaking in this volume. A familiar story that starts quickly without any backstory or world-building. However, just because it isn't a new concept, does not mean it is not well done. The art is good - especially the characters' facial expressions and movement is demonstrated smoothly.

Naturally, I want to read the next volume to see "what happens next." I read a few gushing reviews on some other sites and I am still somewhat perplexed - there was not enough content in this for it to be a five star item. It is, however, a solid afternoon amusement. ( )

Jinwoo Sung is known at the Weakest Hunter of All Mankind, level: E-rank, and the most contribution he can give to his team is not getting killed. Between his mother's hospital bills and his sister's tuition, he doesn't really have another choice but to continue being a hunter. After accepting a mission with a higher payout, he takes it. But the mission turns deadly and survival is unknown. In the end, as Jinwoo Sung was accepting death, he received a strange power: a quest log that only he can see, a secret to leveling up! As long as he follows the quest logs, his level will rise and he could change from the lowest E-rank Hunter up to the strongest S-rank Hunter!

This was my first manhwa! I thought it was manga when I first grabbed it from the library, but then when I picked it up to read it, I realized it was different. There's not a crazy difference between the two, but it was enough I would tell (besides the direction in which you read it).

The illustrations in this book are A-MAZING! The smile on the statue is super creepy and etched into my mind for a while. I'm sure the next time I have a nightmare, that will be the face that is on it. It wasn't that it was even scary - I mean, if I saw that in real life, it would be - but the art also made it so unsettling.

I need more of this. Period. I'm probably going to go find out how to read it online because I'm impatient to wait for the physical printed novels

CW: This gets REALLY gory.

None of this was really impressive with the usual weak MC is smart and has a good heart then, he gets an upgrade and starts bussing heads, but I’ll read volume two since my library is set to get it. I have heard good things about this series, so who knows. I like underdog stories, so I hope things capture my interest later.

I can’t tell you how much character fodder get blown to bits and bloodied in this. You just know who doesn’t have plot armor when they start doing something that’s obviously DUMB, then they act surprised Pikachu. But surprisingly the MC isn’t exempt from this either.

On the plus side, everything’s fully colored and the characters’ expressions are great.

I almost sent this back to the library unread when I finally noticed that it was a manhwa adaptation of a Korean novel I hadn't read. Adaptations and manhwa do not have a great success rate for me individually, much less combined. But I was running low on books the day before my weekly library run, so like an ugly shirt on laundry day, I gave it a chance, guessing by the number of one- and two-panel pages I saw on a quick flip through that it would at least be a quick read.

But I was surprised to find myself liking the weak but clever underdog protagonist and the escape room scenario around which this first volume revolved.

I'm a little leery of the video game aspects that permeate everything -- how the story and world seems built like a video game and the main character actually sees a GUI pop-ups featuring his own hit points -- but I'm willing to give the second volume a try. ( )
