In Gilded, #1 New York Times-bestselling author Marissa Meyer returns to the fairytale world with this haunting tale. Long ago cursed by the god of lies, a poor miller's daughter has developed a talent for spinning stories that are fantastical and spellbinding and entirely untrue. Or so everyone believes. When one of Serilda's outlandish tales draws the attention of the sinister Erlking and his undead hunters, she finds herself swept away into a grim world where ghouls and phantoms prowl the earth and hollow-eyed ravens track her every move. The king orders Serilda to complete the impossible task of spinning straw into gold, or be killed for telling falsehoods. In her desperation, Serilda unwittingly summons a mysterious boy to her aid. He agrees to help her... for a price. Love isn't meant to be part of the bargain. Soon Serilda realizes that there is more than one secret hidden in the castle walls, including an ancient curse that must be broken if she hopes to end the tyranny of the king and his wild hunt forever.… (more)

I really enjoyed this book....however I didn't check to see if the second book was out before I started. Now I must wait. ( )

This is another one of those books that when I first purchased I was super excited to read but then sat on a shelf and let it collect dust, however this year is the year where I want to get through the books I own before purchasing any more. This being my second read of 2024 and it is the best decision I've made so far in my reading world.
This is a retelling of Rumpelstiltskin and to be honest the only thing I know about the original is of that on Once upon a time (which by the way is one of my forever favorite shows), so going into this book I honestly had no expectations and I absolutely loved it.

The nonchalant and rebellious if that's what you want to call Serilda , to the children she tells these lavish stories to, to this villain and the mysterious boy she meets in the castle, I ate it all up.
At first I was getting Beauty and the Beast vibes and some even gave me a great recollection of Belladonna that is written by Adalyn Grace, which I read last year and of course loved, so all good vibes. This is only the second book I've read so far by Marissa Meyer but I am loving her writing style. She seems to really do her research and pulls you in with her characters and her story. To me it had intrigued, fantasy, romance and mystery.
Definite deserving of a 5 star rating ✨✨✨✨✨

❤️ Fairytale/fable retelling

First of all, I'm a lifelong lover of fairy tales, as my bookshelves will attest. And this is a really really good one!

Serilda is a richly drawn character, and I was particularly entertained by the semi-German fairytale names for creatures and places. Bright me right back to my childhood.

However.. Now I have to wait until ?? for the sequel. Because Holy Cliffhangers, Batman! ( )

ꜱᴏ DANG ᴇɴᴛɪᴄɪɴɢ, ɪ'ᴍ ʜᴏᴏᴋᴇᴅ!!!

Let me tell you, this book is something that I didn't know that I needed in my life.
I've always loved retelling of old stories, fairytales, and or history.

The book cover only feeds my internal desire to bite into this series and suck out as much info as I can until my hunger for amazing writing of a book is squelched.

Just from reading the first paragraph I'm allready in love with the introduction of the iconic Madam Sauer. The mention of pettiness, and a women together has me in a choke-hold of judgment and wonder, but a women being assertive and selfish has me bubbling in laughter. Women mentioned in the same sentence of spirits and moons makes me THAT MUCH MORE intrested. On to what could she have done to have been perceived that way by others. Too pretty? Too rich? Too confident? Or maybe too perfect as she is, and charismaticly so, put in the category that any patriarchal system tries to fool & put down women manipulativly. Even though witch's are truly amazing, empowering & mystical in real life.
This book sounds promising and very interesting. I can't wait to finish reading the rest of the sneak peak and after the whole book. I'm truly wondering how everything is going to play out. Can't wait to read on!!
