"A tense, simmering, fast-paced mystery."â??Megan Miranda, New York Times bestselling author of The Last House Guest and The Girl from Widow Hills

The New York Times bestselling author returns with an unsettling but riveting psychological thriller about a captivating woman who joins a family and threatens to upend their picture-perfect lives.

They had everything they needed for a perfect family vacation: close-knit relatives, a bucolic setting . . . and a murderer in their midst?

Summer's looking forward to a break from hustling for acting work in Manhattan when she, her husband Gabe, and Gabe's nine-year-old son arrive at the annual family get-together at her in-laws' sprawling estate. On the agenda are leisurely gourmet meals, tennis matches, and plenty of relaxation by the pool.

But this year, Gabe's brother Nick has invited his new flame Hannah, whom Summer immediately recognizes from a few years before. Oddly, her brother-in-law's girlfriend claims not to know her. Yet she charms the other family members, and after Nick announces that he's proposed to Hannah, Summer doesn't have much choice but to grin and bear it.

Then the reunion is rocked by tragedy when a family member is found dead. Though the doctors attribute the loss to natural causes, a grieving Summer fears that the too-good-to-be-true Hannah is involved, even as Gabe dismisses her suspicions.

How far will Summer go to expose the truth? As she investigates just what Nick's fiancée might have done to keep her perfect image intact, she begins to fear that the first death might only be the beginning . .… (more)

Summer, an actress, is spending a week at her wealthy in-laws. Her husband Gage comes from a big family with 3 brothers. Gages twin brother, brings a new woman with him Hannah, who is also an actress. Summer had worked with Hannah before and when she mentioned it to Hannah, Hannah acted like she was crazy. Well it was suspected Hannah had stole some things during that production. At dinner Nick mentions he and Hannah are engaged only after two months.
Summer is quite suspect of this and she immediately thinks the worse of Hannah and her motives.

Gages’s mother dies from an apparent heart attack while her family was there, but Summer thinks Hannah was involved by poisoning her future MIL.

Then another body was found dead and Summer is convinced Hannah is a murderer.

The twists and turns in this book kept me flipping pages and I couldn’t wait for Summer to bring Hannah down once and for all. Yet, with any good thriller just when you think you have everything figured out, it goes a completely different direction that I didn’t see coming! ( )

My first Kate White novel. I did like the character development and in this one, there are many characters of a large close knit family. I enjoyed the suspense but I'm not sure that I enjoyed the wrap up. It seemed like one of those that didn't give you any ability to attempt to lean toward that person as the guilty one. Those always make me feel duped! However, I will try Kate White again. ( )

This is a fast-paced murder mystery that held my interest mainly because the author threw in so many little tidbits that could have pointed to more than one person as the murderer in the extended Keaton family. However, when the mystery was finally solved, it kind of came out of left field, was somewhat far-fetched, and was tied up in a neat little bow much too quickly. I did enjoy the read, though, and would consider trying some of this author's other books. ( )

A family summer vacation turns deadly. Summer and her husband, Gabe, along with his son, Henry, head to PA to the sprawling estate of his parents for the annual family gathering/vacation. One of Gabe’s brothers brings his new flame and Summer takes an immediate dislike to her.
When someone ends up dead, Summer is suspicious. Then more things don’t go well, and Summer and others are in danger.
I listened to the book, and I didn’t like the voice of the narrator. Also, the characters aren’t likable.
I was looking forward to this read, but it was just okay. ( )

I'll give this one an extra star as I was really enjoying the story, until the "gay drop" happened at Loc 2783: "I also spot Denton Healy, Claire’s friend and former business partner, who retired a year or two before she did. He’s with his husband".

A great "closed room" style whoodunit except for forced skewing of minor characters such as the above. I can almost hear the editor talking to the publisher, "What about this character? Can we switch this one up and make him gay?" *eye roll* If you're going to do it, have a point to it please, rather than filling some check-box of diversity characteristics. ( )
