Only interesting part was the ending. And to be honest, it was actually confusing. ( )

Six of crows meets peaky blinders with vampires & coconuts.
I felt like having every characters POV was unnecessary. There’s also a love triangle. Matteo is by far my fave character. I don’t really care for the plot, but I will continue the series.

This is my first Hafsah Faizal book, and I liked it a lot. I like how she took her time in the first act of the book to really set up the world, characters and plot; and then how the pace gradually picked up when the action started to take place. I like her descriptive writing style; it really helped me to picture the world and the characters. I also liked the multiple POVs in the book. My favorite characters throughout were Jin and Flick, and I liked Arthie more at the end of the book than I did at the beginning. And the ending was very interesting and leaves a great setup for book two. ( )

“She not only defied society, she owned that defiance. She had forged a crown for herself when the world told her she was not meant to have one.”

I have to admit that I wasn't really sure how I was going to feel about this one. I saw lots of people raving about how amazing it was. However, a heist story just didn't sound like my kind of thing. I have to say though that I was enchanted with this story from the minute it started. The writing is phenomenal and the author manages to create tension so well with each chapter... the shifting of perspectives when something pivotal happens really increases the amazingness of this. I loved the variety of characters that we got in this story and how they were all a little band of misfits who found each other and became a family.

Arthie may forever be one of my new favorite female characters. She is ferocious, spunky and just an overall force. I loved the dynamic between her and Jin because it was this pure brother/sister dynamic that was just absolutely adorable. The two have an amazing back and forth that just kills. The book is full of wit, snark and banter. I also have to admit that it was a bit steamier than I was expecting from a YA novel but in like a tension building and innuendo type of way. The number of twists this book threw at me almost killed me. They were just so spectacular and perfectly placed. I have to say that the ending blew me away and I absolutely need the next book like today. ( )

Anything with vampires and I’m willing to read it. I was very excited to read this book. The appearance of the book is absolutely stunning. From the dust jacket to the cover itself. Theres a map in the book which should excite fantasy readers.
There was a lot of espionage aspects to it as well. Which reminded me a lot of Oceans 11. There was also a feel of it taking place in Victorian era even though it definitely did not. Theres a quote I loved from the book”every good love story starts with a bullet to the heart” since I read the book I’ve been thinking about that quote and it’s a good way to sum up the book. The quote seemed to foreshadow some of the events that take place later in the book.
Most of the book is planning and executing a heist and it does take awhile for the action to kick In but when it does it’s definitely worth the ride. Those last 100 pages are so worth the buildup the rest of the book takes to set up that action. ( )
