She knows he's no saint, but she has no idea she's dancing with the devil. Cole Blackwell values control. He's the hottest sculptor in San Francisco-wealthy, successful, and respected. His only weakness is the dark impulse he carefully conceals. In truth, he's not just an artist: he's a predator, and the city is his hunting ground. Mara Eldritch is a nobody. Broke and damaged, she works three jobs while creating paintings no one will ever see. When a chance encounter throws Mara into Cole's path, her escape from certain death fascinates Cole. More than that-it fixates him. He begins stalking her, discovering there's more to the struggling misfit than he would have guessed. She makes him feel things he never thought he could feel. Want things he thought he'd never want. He doesn't know if he should protect her at all costs or destroy her before she ruins him. He's losing control, breaking the rules that have kept his true nature hidden from the world. Mara knows he's dangerous, but Cole is the only person who's ever recognized her talent, and it leads her heart astray, straight into the dark. Cole can teach her to get what she wants...but what might this vicious killer want in return?… (more)

Dark and twisted this book takes the reader on one crazy ride that you will devour. Cole Blackwell is this strong silent artist that has secrets on secrets, a controlled genius who finds his greatest pleasures in creating art and at times murder. His nemesis is a narcissistic egomaniac artist that kills for the thrill with no control and they despise each other in both facets of their lives. The first time Cole sees Mara at a gallery her appearance lives much to be desired but something about her is calling to him. Mara is a typical struggling artist who has been put through horrible things growing up but the main thing is she is a survivor. A tragic night that lives her vulnerable and dying sets things in motion for her and Cole. This twisted tell deals with attraction, death, trying to fight feelings and remain in control. I was glued from page one to the very end. Cole as dark as he is does show some feelings but only towards Mara and that made me very interested in him and Mara was guarded but knew how to read people especially Cole. I loved this story the direction it went and will go. “I knew if I learned everything I could about you…there’s nothing I couldn’t make you do…”
“She’s beautiful, infinitely more beautiful than the Olgiati. I can’t shatter her.”
“I’ve taken a life, but never shared a life.” “I don’t want to be taken care of, I want to be seen………. I see you….” ( )

I usually avoid true crime inspired content, and almost didn’t get this book. However, Sophie Lark is one of my guilty pleasures, so I decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised with this book and loved the art world it operated in. I’m still not sold on serial killer dramas, but still enjoyed it. The book would have been a 3 out of 5 star rating, but the playlist for this book was absolutely perfect. It did a perfect job matching the tone of the book. Since I can’t give the playlist a 5 out of 5 star ranking, I’ve given the book an additional star. ( )

There are No Saints by Sophie Lrk is a captivating contemporary romance novel that delves into the intricate dynamics of two complex characters, Cole Blackwell and Mara Eldritch. Lark weaves a story filled with passion, mystery, and unexpected connections, drawing readers into a world where love and darkness collide. At the center of the narrative is Cole Blackwell, a highly successful sculptor in San Francisco who presents an impeccable facade to the world. He is admired for his talent and wealth but harbors a hidden side that he keeps tightly under control. Mara Eldritch, on the other hand, is a struggling artist burdened by financial difficulties and personal demons, pouring her soul into her art while remaining invisible to the world. Their paths cross by chance, and from that moment, a captivating and dangerous dance begins. As Mara finds herself in a life-threatening situation, Cole becomes intrigued by her resilience and escapes with her. This encounter sets off a series of events that deepen their connection, leading Cole to break the rules he so meticulously adheres to. Lark masterfully explores the psychological depths of her characters, particularly cole and his internal struggles. She skillfully portrays the complexity of his desires and the tension between his need for control and his growing infatuation with Mara. The author creates a palpable sense of danger and unpredictability, keeping readers on the edge of their seats, eager to unravel the enigmatic motives driving Cole's actions. Mara, with her damaged past and artistic talent, serves as a perfect foil to Cole's controlled demeanor. Their interactions are intense and magnetic, fueling a captivating dynamic that evolves throughout the story. Lark highlights the power dynamics at play between them, raising thought-provoking questions about consent, desire, and the blurred lines between right and wrong. ( )

Very unexpected story that had a lot of twists and turns. The cat and mouse games had me waiting on bated breath. I actually forgot this was a duet, so as the story was progressing towards the end I was scrambling to wrap my head around how it was going to wrap up.

Luckily, it is only part one. It ended at a pivotal point and made my love hate relationship towards cliffhangers continue. I would love if the author further delves into the backstory of the animosity between the two rivals. I found that was my only real drawback to this book. ( )
