This directly continues the story begun in the first book, and it is equally likable. The setting is a medieval fantasy kingdom, but with a low level of magic, which makes the magician opponent all the more fearful. Will and Horace's adventures are engaging and readers of coming of age fantasies targeted towards boys will enjoy it. ( )

- For Middle School
- A continuation of the Rangers Apprentice series where the book works with themes such as: complex family situations, empowering success, love, truth, honesty, and more. It is a book about a teen who doesn't know his Dad because he died before he was born. He is an outcast but is taken in as a rangers apprentice and learns skills and learns to do great things AS HE IS. He is encouraged to use his unique talents and not someone else's. This is a furthering of the adventures of Will. I would love to have this in my future classroom.

Finally got around to finishing this book. I loved the first one of the series but I was hesitant on reading the sequels since sequels are known to be bad in most series but I was wrong. I love how Halt in this book is becoming more “human” since in the first book he was very cold and standoffish with barely any emotion to him so that was nice. Also I love how Halt was being a little terror when Will was gone, by literally throwing people into moats which made me laugh. I also enjoyed the bits of Morgoraths perspective too, gave more insight of how his emotions are and what he sees in his perspective which was nice in my opinion though I was confused as to why he was killed so early in the series since in the first book he was made out to be this big bad villain. It also annoyed me that he was taken down by Horace which i felt was a move to make Horace’s abilities be invincible but whatever. Hopefully book 3 would be great. ( )

Not quite as good as the 1st one but I liked it. Really likes the ending. ( )
