Grab your stakes and your rock salt. Monster hunting class is in session.

Liam Hunter has warded off hungry vampires, slayed monstrous beasts, and put agonized spirits to rest since he could hold a stake. When trouble comes through the Hunterland message board, alerting them that nurses are dying at high schools across Wisconsin in a string of fishy "suicides," the Hunter family hits the road to save the day.

The trail leads to Falkville Falls, where Liam clashes with Olivia Davis, whose maddening family seems inexplicably embroiled in this haunting mess. Olivia has always mothered her little sister, Pepper. But when the Hunter family opens her eyes to the hidden underworld of real monsters prowling the dark, she realizes she can't protect Pepper from this newest threat by herself. Can the two families work together to uncover who or what is responsible before the next murder, or will this vicious death cycle have no end?

I loved the writing, the story flowed nicely and I didn't find my eyes skipping sections like they are prone to do with some books.

Olivia, Liam, Jac, and Pepper made the story and I can't wait to read the next book.
After reading the synopsis I was hooked, and then once I got into the book I noticed some Supernatural vibes, however, this book is not just a knockoff of Supernatural. The family dynamic is fantastic and the Davis and Hunter families seem to mesh exceptionally well. ( )

Hunterland by Dana Claire is about teenager Liam, who has been a hunter of all things supernatural since he was a kid. After he receives a message on the Hunterland message board, he heads to high school in Wisconsin where nurses are dying in a from so-called suicides. I liked the premise of the book as it reminded me of Supernatural. It reminded me of some of the paranormal series on tv. The high schoolers try to rid the town of spirits and vamps but the rest of the town is totally oblivious except for a few "in the know" adult. I did enjoy this book but wish Liam would cool it with the sexual innuendos. It has a promising start and I enjoyed the world building and thought there was a lot of potential for future storylines. Would read the second book ( )

I have read a handful of books by author, Dana Claire and really enjoy them. This book is no exception. It kind of gave me the television show, Supernatural vibes. Which I am a fan of. I do want to point out that this book is geared towards young adult readers, and it did come off that way to me. Not that I as an adult did not enjoy this book, but I just know the targeted reading audience will enjoy it more.

This is not your standard vampire book. It had some mystery surrounding the deaths of the various teachers. Which I liked the mystery aspect of this book. Every character had a purpose in the story. That is something that I like about Dana's books is that her characters are engaging and while reading it is like the stories come alive as mini movies in my head. If you are looking for your next great read, then you should pick up a copy of this book! ( )

I received a copy of this book through LibraryThing Early Reviewers.

This YA novel is about two families who are superficially alike but turn out to be very different. Each family consists of a single widowed father and two children of similar ages. One family lives in a small American town and the father is the sheriff and his two daughters are Olivia, a by the book responsible senior, and Pepper, a 14 year old rebel. The other family, made up of an FBI officer-type father, a 19 year old son and a 14 year old daughter, moves from town to town hunting monsters and things that go bump in the night. Their lives merge as the sheriff's family become involved in the local high school's third murder and the hunters follow the trail of a murdering serial monster to the same school. Fireworks ensue as the two families and their two worlds collide.

The novel is told predominantly in two voices - that of the eldest girl and the boy - with occasional episodes told by the sheriff's younger daughter. This is a tricky way of telling a story but is done well with the viewpoints switching at pertinent points and without overlap and repetition of the story. The writing is competent and the world building is well done. There is an interesting cast of supporting characters and the various conflicts are handled skilfully. It is obviously the first in a series so, although the story at the heart of this instalment is wrapped up, things are set up for the next instalment. It is very teen oriented and very firmly aimed at the YA audience so will be enjoyable to people in search of a YA romance with a touch of mystery and paranormal action. ( )

It brings to mind books like Twilight, but better. When a series of school nurse suicides" occurs, teenagers Pepper and Olivia know their dad will get to the bottom of things. After all, he is the sheriff. However, the Hunter family arrives on the scene with the intention of solving the case. In doing so, they completely shatter everything the girls thought they knew, totally shaking up their grasp on reality. These cases aren't what they seem and as the girls discover a world of monsters truly exists, as well as discovering their possession of unique abilities, chaos and death ensues leaving them to face dangers they could have only dreamt of. With a healthy amount of slow burn romance, teen angst, death and monsters, this story takes you on a wild ride. I enjoyed Claire's writing and look forward to experiencing more. ( )
