Good enough. I thought it would be creepier. ( )

I gave it 3.5 stars. I mean, for the shortest novella ever, it wasn't bad. I was definitely more sucked into the beginning and then all of a sudden, it was just over. There's not enough time to get sucked into the characters or the storyline! I guess in general, that's why I don't love short stories. But it was good and the main character lost her hair and then murdered her husband. Par for the course for Freida, a little far-fetched, but always a fun twist. I guess the real twist was the weird woman's daughter was having an affair/baby with the girl's husband. I probably won't remember this going forward. ( )

It's Christmas Eve, and Stella Hansen has almost finished her shift moonlighting at Stevie's, as the diner is closing early. Stella's excited to spend Christmas with her husband Justin as although they've been together for the past 2 years, it is their 1st Christmas as a married couple. Stella wishes she had a gift for her husband, but as the primary wage-earner with her husband in law school and both with school loans, heat and rent have been her priorities.

As I began reading, I thought perhaps it was a contemporary version of "The Gift of the Magi" by O. Henry. I don't share spoilers, so let me just say it isn't that. I never saw the twist coming.

The low rating is given as it was unexpectedly very repetitive of Stella's reason for not having a gift for Justin, especially for such a short book. ( )

I didn’t realize it was a novelette. It was pretty stupid about her cutting her hair to get a gift for her husband and he was going to leave her anyways ( )

Isn't it ironic.... Don't you think

Short but sweet. A very nice novelette. A very ironical novellete....Can't wait for the next one.
Oh yeah did I say ironical.
