A masterfully paced thriller about a reclusive ex-movie star and her famous friends whose spontaneous trip to a private Greek island is upended by a murder -- from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Silent Patient This is a tale of murder. Or maybe that's not quite true. At its heart, it's a love story, isn't it? Lana Farrar is a reclusive ex-movie star and one of the most famous women in the world. Every year, she invites her closest friends to escape the English weather and spend Easter on her idyllic private Greek island. I tell you this because you may think you know this story. You probably read about it at the time - it caused a real stir in the tabloids, if you remember. It had all the necessary ingredients for a press sensation: a celebrity; a private island cut off by the wind...and a murder. We found ourselves trapped there overnight. Our old friendships concealed hatred and a desire for revenge. What followed was a game of cat and mouse - a battle of wits, full of twists and turns, building to an unforgettable climax. The night ended in violence and death, as one of us was found murdered. But who am I? My name is Elliot Chase, and I'm going to tell you a story unlike any you've ever heard.… (more)

For a twisty island murder mystery this one really dragged. I didn’t love the style of a narrator that kept telling you that he was about to tell you something big. It was exhausting. He’s a classic unreliable narrator, but there’s too much telling & not enough showing in the story. The characters are such selfish, superficial people & they’re constantly betraying each other. It was hard to find anyone to root for & the ending felt like a cop out.

“We are all the unreliable narrators of our own lives.” ( )

Not the best, didn’t like the dialogue/perspective it was written in. Plot was good though ( )

This is basically The Glass Onion movie but not as entertaining.
You have an awful character talking directly to you and a bunch of predictable twists and turns that will shock no one who has seen said movie. In the end, you are left with fury for wasting your time.
Cover is cool tho. ( )

Lana Farrar, a world famous woman and ex-movie star has invited her closest friends to spend Easter on her private Greek Island, which unfortunately ends in a murder.

Elliot is the character that narrates this complicated story. He kept me guessing as to what his truth really was. I was sympathetic at the beginning but didn’t like him by the end. There were a lot of twists and it was mostly entertaining but I didn’t think the final twist was clear in its implications. Overall, it was a well told story if a bit far-fetched. ( )

Well, I'm going to have to go with a 3.5 star rating only because I have barely any recollection of this book. I read it about 2 months ago and it's just not there. I even just looked up a spoiler and didn't trigger anything at all. So, here we are. I remember it's a bunch of people in a house/island. And they're rich. And from the spoiler, I read that the main character is unreliable. I think he's in jail or something at the end? I do remember enjoying listening to it and I listened to it rather quickly. But clearly not good enough that it made that much of an impression that it stayed in my brain. ( )
