I really enjoyed this book. A reality show gone crazy, (SPOILER) brought on by a woman who wanted to seek revenge and she was dying. They complete challenges that seemed to go wrong and aimed to kill them. In the end, Cat, the woman who orchestrated it all, knew all of them and were connected and she wanted to seek revenge on everyone. She ended up killing herself (because she was dying anyway). And she left everything to her assistant. Who ended up giving a million dollars to one contestant who had a sick daughter. It was a good ride and I enjoyed it! And the fact that I can remember everything about the book a month later, also speaks volumes about this book! ( )

If you are a reality show fan, you will probably like this one.

Five contestants are chosen to appear on a game show called One Lucky Winner. The person who wins will take home 10 million dollars. All of them are assigned a game name - The Best Friend (Maire), The Confidant (Camille), The Senator (himself), The Boyfriend (Samuel), and the Executive (Ned) - want desperately to win the money. Things are not exactly as advertised, however, once they all gather at the secluded winery estate in Northern California. As the rules are explained and the game begins, live streamed all over the world, the stakes become clear. Long held secrets are revealed and each of the players wonders if they will make it out alive.

I wish I had liked this more. It was difficult because the characters were so hideous that I couldn't find a single one to root for. Maire especially got on my last nerve with all her whining. I did not find any of the scenarios believable and given what the reader finds out about each of them, none should win anything. I wanted all their bad deeds to come to light! Yeah, I'm probably an outlier, and I don't watch reality television, so this plot and the story was not the one for me. The narrative has a then and now format as we learn some of the backstories of the contestants. Regardless, the whole concept of that show and how it was run strained credulity, and the ending was the biggest disappointment of all. Not because of what happened to the game show host, Fern, but because of something she did. No Spoilers.

I listened to the audiobook while also following along in the e-book ARC provided by the publisher. I didn't care for the voice of the narrator and the way different characters sounded. This production would really have benefitted from a larger cast to speak the various roles. ( )

Another gripping thriller by this author. If you like a mystery to devour, this book is for you. So many unbelievable twists and turns with an equally unbelievable ending!! ( )

Five contestants are brought to an estate in CA on the premise that they can win $10 million. The hook, they will fight each other relentlessly to win. They are given weapons to use, but will they use them. One person is given phrases to speak-which mean something to the various contestants, about a secret they wish to hide. It is being televised at special times, people tune in to see the various contests, races, and other events. It is a dangerous game, threatening to expose their secrets. Who is doing this? The Best Friend. The Confidant. The Senator. The Boyfriend. The Executive. These are the contestants, but who is pulling the string.
I was hoping for more suspense. I am not a fan of reality TV, so perhaps that jaded my opinion. ( )

Game shows have evolved from the days of Bob Barker and guessing prices to 'games' that you couldn't imagine! Heather Gudenkauf has set her latest book - Everyone is Watching - in a 'game' that will keep you turning pages 'til the wee hours.

The prize is ten million dollars. But - there are only five players. Does that make it easier to win? Or tougher? Oh, and the competition is being streamed in real time around the world.

I like the way Gudenkauf set the book up. We meet the players in their present with flashbacks to their pasts. As you read, you'll have your suspicions about every player - and the staff.

Each event is not at what was expected by the players - or this reader! But is it really so far from reality? What will someone do for a chance at ten million dollars? The tension, suspense and action doesn't let up until the threads are all tied up in the last pages.

I can see Everyone is Watching as a movie. ( )
