So I stumbled upon this book entirely by accident because the author posted up an audio book version on YouTube. I ended up listening to that, and while I was disappointed at the actual narration (done by a text-to-speech bot, completely void of emotion), I ended up really liking the prose and how natural it sounded for the situation the story opens with. It's very realistic in a "well, we can't do much, so we'll ride out the possible end of life as we know it here" set in a dorm with six female roommates. As the story goes on, as they're looking for more news and updates as to what's happening outside, we get really good descriptions of the intense emotions our main character Maggie is feeling, the danger really setting in for her, and the stakes being raised. Then when we enter the read of our secondary protagonist Jancel, his perspective is also extremely refreshing when compared to other supernatural romance love interests.

The audio book version being posted up on YouTube by the author is something I never expected, but highly appreciated - enough to try finding the book on Amazon. UNFORTUNATELY it's ebook only... But because I had some credit laying around, I thought "meh, why not?" and bought it - basically getting it for free. Can't complain about free!

It's an honest shame there isn't a physical version, but I assume that's just because it's so short. Still a shame, but should there ever be a reprint of the first book in the series this is meant to be a prologue to with this book included as a bonus chapter in it, I'll definitely buy it. ( )
