Urs Faes' Roman über die unmenschliche Innenwelt des Internats erinnert in weiten Teilen an "Jakob von Gunten", den 1909 erschienenen Internatsroman seines großen Landsmannes Robert Walser. Eine Traditionslinie, die auch in der poetischen Sprache des Autors ihre Fortsetzung erfährt. Urs Faes hat die Internatswelt mit so großer Sinnlichkeit beschrieben, dass man glaubt, den Schweiß der pubertierenden Körper und die muffige Fäulnis der Klosterschule riechen zu können.
