This volume comprises papers written by colleagues and former pupils in honour of Professor John Le Patourel, F.B.A., who retired in September 1974 from his chair of medieval history in the University of Leeds.
Editorial note. It gave me much pleasure when I was honoured with the invitation to share, however briefly, in the tribute which is being paid to Professor Le Patourel on the occasion of his retirement from his Chair in the University of Leeds.
