Mrs. Peters has seven children, each one a pickier eater than the last. As her family grows, Mrs. Peters is more and more worn out from meeting her family's demands. For her birthday, the children want to cook for her but can't agree on what to make. The result is both a mess and a success.

A fun story about a woman with 7 kids, all of whom are extremely picky eaters. She finds it rather endearing with the oldest, but as she has more and more children, she quickly becomes exhausted.

I liked it overall but felt there was just so much potential to make it even funnier; and I didn't love the ending.

It is refreshing to read books about large families, though!

A family favorite that was a gift one Christmas to my daughter from her aunt. We've read it so, so many times.

Not so long ago, they say,
A mother lived - just like today.
Mrs. Peters was her name;
Her little boy was named the same.
Now Peter was a perfect son
In every way - except for one.

Each one of this increasingly harried mother's children has a distinct and rigid food preference in this rhyming tale, from homemade bread to applesauce. Marla Frazee illustrates the building chaos to its messy conclusion.

Book description
I like this book because it brings in rhyming and repetition in a poetic type of way, which young children really enjoy in a story. The illustrations also are a good jumping point to extend conversation as there is a lot going on. Mathematical concepts could also be brought forth as the children are added to the story. A great preschool language pre-literacy activity could include listing the rhymes from the book, or going around the circle and listing each child favorite food. The teacher could make a book of the foods that they chose, and have the children illustrate it. The teacher can present the book at a large circle for everyone to see and here.
