Summary: This was a very informative book. It explains to children what an iceberg is. It says that even in the summer it does not get hot enough to melt away the iceberg. The book says, "This large chunk of ice and snow is called a glacier." It talks about the importance of ships to have lookouts to make sure that they do not hit an iceberg.

Personal Reaction: This book is jammed pack of information. Children would learn so much by reading this. It is good that children learn about all kinds of things like icebergs. I think that this book is more directed at children in the fourth or fifth grade as opposed to a child in kindergarten or first grade.

Classroom Extensions: 1) I would bring a bucket of ice water to class and have all of the children feel it so that they can see how cold the water in the artic ocean is. 2) I would have the children draw a picture of a penguin. I would have them cut out the penguin that they drew and post the penguins on the wall. ( )
