McGuffey developed his reader at Miami University of Ohio - there is a campus museum filled with his readers. He laid the basics for many American children to use while learning to read. This copy is in very bad shape. Actual copy is from the Flanagan Family and is filled with notes and so forth. These reproductions of McGuffey's readers are useful volumes for those interested in the history of education in America. The content is faithful to the original and the binding is sturdy. I work at a living history museum and we use these in our 19th century schoolhouse to demonstrate how children learned to read. This volume works well in demonstrating elementary school reading and visitors to the museum often find it interesting that students were exposed to more advanced reading at a younger age than they typically are now. no reviews | add a review
