well-written but the protagonist is so stuffed up her own butthole that she's hard to like. i was very rarely rooting for her. ( )

Book description
Living in Beirut with her family in 1962, Mia longs to return to the United States. She yearns to experience the typical American childhood, full of hot dogs ans baseball games, described so vividly in her books. Mia never actually expected to get her wish, but when her eccentric parents disappear suddenly at sea, she is forced to live with her aunt in Ionia, Tennessee. Mia begins to savor the memories of Beirut she once wanted to abandon as she tries to adjust to a new family and the American culture she longed for. - Back Cover
