Reading Level: Primary Genre: Traditional Literature Summary: Iktomi is a Plains Indian trickster. In this fable Iktomi must escape from a large boulder with the help of bats. Evaluation: Iktomi's actions were funny and kept me wondering what was going to happen to him next. This book helps readers understand more about Native American storytelling while also providing a story that is sure to keep them laughing. This story was a little strange to me. I thought it was interesting because of how clever Iktomi thought he was and how he tried to fool everyone but the story never seemed to be flattering to me. In this story, the main character gets his leg stuck under a huge boulder and tries to get animals to free him. Finally, the bats come to help him after he tells them how the boulder has been talking bad about them. The story says that because of this, bats have flat faces and rocks are on the Great Plains territory. no reviews | add a review
