In the year 1869, and for one or two years following, Dr. Kitchin, now Dean of Durham, took up his abode at Brantwood, near to this parish and on the opposite margin of Coniston Lake, and while there he had in hand, as a Delegate of the Clarendon Press, Oxford, the proofs of Cleasby and Vigfusson's Icelandic Dictionary, which was then passing through the press.
