This eight edition of United States History to 1877 revises the first volume of John A. Krout's popular and time-tested outlines of American history, first published in the Barnes and Noble College Outline Series in 1933 (7th edition revised in conjunction with Professor Arnold S. Rice, 1971).

In terms of human history and the history of the North American continent and its peoples, the history of the United States is but a recent episode.
