Fernando Aramburu hat acht Jahre an dem Roman geschrieben, der mit über 700 Seiten schon zur Kategorie des Opus gehört. Der Philologe und Sprachlehrer für spanische Emigrantenkinder im westfälischen Lippstadt hat bisher zwei Gedichtbände veröffentlicht. In "Limonenfeuer" bringt er seine Lust an Literatur und Sprache zum Ausdruck und setzt die Ereignisse atmosphärisch in Bilder um: "Seit vierundzwanzig Stunden blies dieser launische Wind. Am Morgen begleitete er mich zur Brauerei, er tollte um mich herum wie ein junger unvernünftiger Hund. [...] Ab und zu drang eine Bö in den Schuppen ein, und während sie wieder hinausfegte, nahm sie den Maschinendunst mit. Kurz vor Mittag spürte ich zum letzten Mal, dass er vorbeiwehte: ein Windstoß, der pfeifend zur Flaschenreinigungsanlage davoneilte."
