Welp, now that I've found a Blyton, finally, in a thrift store, I know why they're so hard to find in the US. There not worth importing. Ridiculous plot, blatant sexism, feasts that are 70% sugar and 0% vegetable but still mom-approved.... And the kids are so mean to Susie, just because she wants to be a member of their club. For some reason, this is the Secret Seven adventure I most vividly remember from my first readings. I remember particularly liking the fact that they didn't just happen upon an adventure but trained themselves to be observant, in ways that paid off. After reading it I wanted to be good at the "20 things on a tray" game but I never was. I also wanted to be brave enough to try shadowing people! I've now worked out who Peter reminds me of: Captain Manwearing from Dad's Army! no reviews | add a review

In this one, Peter, the leader of the club, sets tasks for the other children, so that they can practice investigating for when a real mystery turns up. Of course, the tasks lead them into trouble and into a real mystery.
Nice, relaxing and uncomplicated, but a bit too uncomplicated, even for an Enid Blyton children's book. When Iwas a kid I did not like these ones, because I much preferred the Famous Five, the Adventure series, or all the other Enid Blyton series. For very small kids, though, they are great. ( )
