I caught this miniseries on HBO and just adored it. I'd be predisposed to like it a lot since I'm a fan of science fiction and space exploration. But this told me a lot of the story of the Apollo Program I never knew. In particular, this gives a sense of how truly risky this program was and all that was at stake. Most people are aware of how three astronauts died at the landing pad in Apollo One, and that the astronauts were in great peril during Apollo Thirteen. But all the missions had moments that could have resulted in disaster. And there are also angles of the story we don't usually see--I remember I was particularly taken with the story of Grumman and the company's struggle to create the lunar module. And everything--the writing, the casting, the effects and sense of period is just so beautifully done. ( )
