This volume is General Eisenhower's personal account of the Allied invasion of Europe, from the preparations for the D-Day landings in Normandy, to the final assault across Germany. He presents a story of a far more arduous struggle than is commonly portrayed against an enemy whose tenacity he admired and whose skills he feared. It is a tactical account of his understanding of enemy manoeuvres, and his attempts to counter their actions. The formality of the report is coloured by many personal touches, and it is possible to sense Eisenhowers growing determination to finish the task. Uncovered Editions are historic official papers now available in popular form. No library descriptions found. |
