In the sixth and final book of the Samantha series, Samantha experiences much change; she now lives a halcyon life in New York City with Uncle Gard and Aunt Cornelia. Sadly, her best friend Nellie lives in an oppressive orphanage run by the odious Tusnelda Frouchy. Shortly before Nellie is due to leave on the orphan train, Samantha and Nellie plan a daring escape from the orphanage.

Interesting Children's fiction set at the turn of the twentieth century. ( )

When she searches the city for her friend Nelly, she discovers her in a foster home with her sisters. When they are in danger of being separated, she takes the three of them out and hides them in her attic. They are discovered by her aunt and uncle, who decide to adopt Nelly and her sisters. ( )
