After an eternity when he could see again Varl looked at his hands and stared wonderingly at the unmarked skin, the uncrushed bones, and the intact nails.

Book description
BAIT FOR A KILLER

Ships occasionally disappeared in hyperspace, regrettable sacrifices to the luxury of faster-than-light travel. But now one of the lost ships has been found and the wreckage is enough to terrify even the most cold-blooded witness.

The lucky ones on the lost ship are dead. The others have been turned inside out in gruesome parody of human beings and they are still alive.

The disgraced Captain Kurt Varl is chosen to command a suicide mission to discover the cause of these disasters.

The enemy is unknown and the only way Varl can solve the mystery is to use himself as bait!
--------------------
SUCKED INTO DANGER
Varl threw the lever, and the Odile reared as if alive. Metal winked and scintillated with transient shimmers, and the gray mist of hyperspace roiled as if stirred with a monstrous spoon.

When the screens cleared they showed - madness!

Where the black emptiness of normal space should have been, a riot of color was visible instead - brilliant greens and blues, yellows and flaring reds, orange and puce, and lavender and scarlet.

And among the colors, objects moved: a spire of shining crystals; somethng whcih chould have been a hive; a slowly wheeling snowflake; a pyramid; a ball banded in silver and gold; an amorphous mass like a sponge.

Had the Odile been thrown into another dimension?
