The heroine has spent her entire life working on hers experiments, so she has no time to put on makeup of make herself look halfway decent. Her partner in all this is a cooky old man who's son-the hero-wants absolutely nothing to do with him. The hero has had to deal with when it comes to his father and when he shows up at the house and into the middle of an experiment that turns him invisible- the hero is seriously pissed. And so the reluctant hero is forced to stick around with a dad he has issues with and the woman who is a way, added to that strain. You had to laugh at the hero. He hates his kook of a father-with his stupid experiments and all, and he's super pissed when such an experiment results in him becoming invisible. After he settles a bit, he takes advantage of this predicament but jogging naked and playing games on the heroine. It was a nice romance though nothing practically special. ( )

Epigraph
The Invisibility of the Lonely

The invisibility of the lonely
Is known and is felt by all;
For even the kings on their thrones
Have felt transparent and small.

When no one notices their laughter,
When no one acknowledges their tears,
When a blind eye is turned to their triumphs,
And a deaf ear is turned to their fears.

Do you feel like you're fading, dear brother?
Fading faster than sight and than sound?
Transparent as wind over water?
Short-lived like dew on the ground?

Do you feel like there is nobody watching
Or caring for whatever you do?
Does it seem that there's a wave of darkness
Swallowing all of the life that's in you?

The invisibility is closing in now
Because the fools won't see who you are.
They have stolen the light that was in you
That once made you shine like a star.

I will join you in your translucence,
Take your hand and teach you to run
Out of the darkness of the lonely and
Back to your place in the sun.

For the invisibility of the lonely
Will always be felt by a few
But I will not stand by, my brother,
If the lonely that's fading is you.
                                  --Beth Wallek
Dedication
For everyone who has ever been called an oddball.
Or felt like one.
First words
J.T. Drake stood in the shadow of an elm tree across the street from his father's rambling old house.
Quotations
(page 145)

When I return from the restroom, I trust you'll be
sitting n the emily seat behind us.
(page 298)

I dedicate this book to the memory of my mother,
Eve Carlise;
And to my after, Dr. Hershel Drake,
Who gave me the gift of his memories;
And to my inlays, Darla, Barb and Sully,
Who took on my mission and accepted me sight unseen;
But most of all, this book belongs to my wife,
Dr. Roselyn Grace Peabody-Drake
Visible or not, without her heart, I wouldn't be whole.
