This book is designed to increase a student's knowledge of his or her home state, as well as other states, and apply it across the curriculum. It can be used to explore any state. The open-ended activities are developed around state-specific information that students gather through research in books, electronic media, teacher presentations, guest speakers and interviews. Topics include: facts about a state (nickname, population, motto, date entered union, industry, crops, largest cities, etc.), first inhabitants (Native Americans), pioneers, family history, historical monuments, natural wonders, time zones, endangered species, legends, and tall tales.
