The preeminent work by one of France's most celebrated comic artists, this book tells the unique story of a rabbi, his daughter, and their talking cat - a philosopher brimming with scathing humor and surprising tenderness. When the Rabbi's daughter and her new husband decide to go to Paris to visit the young man's parents, the Rabbi insists on being taken with them, along with his cat of course. But when they're about to enter the home of their hosts and he finds out that the in-laws are non-practicing Jews who don't respect any of the Jewish laws, the Rabbi marches off into the night in the pouring rain without a penny in his pocket, taking only his cat with him. All he knows is he's got a beloved nephew with a gift for music living somewhere in the city. Great fun. ( )
