This is a cute book. It is wordless and most pages have a reflected shadow page. The shadow looks completely different from what is actual happening. When she is playing with a vacuum, in the shadows it looks like she is with an elephant. In another part of the story, the girl's shadow looks like an animal. The girl seems to get lost playing in the shadows before her mom calls her for dinner. She then turns on the light and the shadows disappear. This would be a good book to use with english language learners since it is wordless. ( )

This is an interesting wordless picture book. At first I had a hard time reading it but after giving it a thorough picture walk it started to make more sense. I enjoyed this book because of it's creative layout and imagination it can give to the reader. This book is meant to be opened bottom to top, instead of right to left like a usual book. One side of the page has what the girl is actually doing (in the light), and the other side shows what she sees (in the shadows). It is interesting to see what a child can imagine when they are playing with ordinary things in their basement and a light. If a child were to read this book, they could relate or gain more ideas to grow their imagination. Children think wondrous things, and all they would need is a light and a shadow. I would put a book like this in my classroom library for students to look at, or I would use it with a student one on one to help with comprehension.

I gave this book a 4/5. I think it is a great wordless picture book to evoke creativity within your students. The way the girl uses everyday objects to come up with a whole new world she lives in is amazing. I want to use this to get my students exploring their creative sides. The reason I gave it one less star is because the plot of the story is at some points confusing but that will happen with any wordless picture book. You can still ask about plot here, when the one shadow is sad. They eventually come up with a solution and come together as friends. This also sends a good message to students. Sometimes people may come off as mean but they might really be scared. (which is whats happening with that shadow). You could also use this book as an at home activity or project. Have students go home and come up with an invented or creative story or world that they come up with. This book also involves setting/ location. It uses some animals and plants to convey location. you could ask your students "how do you know where the girl is?" and you would go on to say animals and plants, or anything on the page, can tell you a lot about the story. ( )

I️ enjoyed this book, the illustrations were fantastic, and really cool to look at. I️ would enjoy to share this with a class, and see where their imagination takes them.

I can connect with this book on so many levels. I use to scare myself when I was little because when I laid in the dark my imagination would create scary monster. Another way i can connect with this book is my brothers and i use to play a form of freeze tag turning on and off the lights. I love this book, it needs no words to understand.
