In this 2nd LOA volume, the reader will Nabokov's 3 novels & a screen play of "Lolita." "Lolita" is one of the most controversial novels of the time & all but wrecked Nabokov's reputation which he never recovered. His insistence at the time of pushing the novel was incredibly ill advised. Afterwards, none of his other novels nor his screenplay would be remembered except for "Lolita".

Vladimir Nabokov, a Russian immigrant, who spent most of his adult life in the US & wrote several novels, most notably "Lolita." In this volume, 2 novels & his memoir "Speak, Memory" is quite fascinating for his recollection of a world long gone & unknown to readers.

I really wanted to like this book and I purchased the Kindle and the audible edition so I could alternate between reading and listening. When I was listening, I did enjoy some of the jokes did seem to land. But I still had absolutely no idea what was going on. I asked AI and they had no idea. I decided before I read anymore. I read the text highlighting any actions that were taking place in real time so I could sort of figure out how the plot moved along. This proved impossible because by the time I got to maybe chapter 7 or eight I found myself falling asleep like almost in a coma. It was impossible to read this stuff without falling asleep. Anytime the narrator talks about the plot it’s interesting but any time which is most most of the time when he just goes off on some sort of strange reminiscence or an aside that part is boring, which means most of the book is boring with just a little bit of excitement to look forward to when something actually happens in the plot. The book does get better. It’s just that certain chapters are just totally irreverent and only have a small bit of information to move the plot forward and the rest is just sort of this trivia and Minutia. Updated based on how much I found the book in improved at the end of the first part and the beginning of the second part I went and revised the number of stars up again because I found the book did have some interesting parts.… (more)
