This story is about two young girls who are taken from their parents and have no idea why. They are soon placed on a train and perspective parents eye them in order to decide if they want to adopt them or not. The story follows the twin girls on their journey to find their family and a place to belong during the early 20th century. The characters are relatable for girls in grades 4-6 and also gives them a small glimpse of what some families had to go through during these tough times.

I liked this book a lot. It gave a many human emotions to something that actually happened to many people, but not a lot knows about. I think this was handled well considering some might think Mary suffers from Stockholm Syndrome, but over all well researched and an interesting read. I would recommend it. 4 out of 5 stars.

Overall a well researched and educational middle grade book. I love history, so this book was right up my alley. I learned some because I had never heard of Johnny before. The illustrations and the photos really added to the story. I would recommend this book. 4.5 out of 5 stars.
