I struggled a lot with this book, and my feelings toward it. On the one hand I love a doctor who is open minded, on the other hand I don't know if astrology is the place to focus your medical energies. Also, the narrative was all over the place, making it harder to follow the story, and how Dr. Blando came to some of her conclusions about so-called alternative medicine. This was fine, but it seemed vague.

I find astrology, palm reading, tarot and psychics really fascinating. I enjoyed learning about her experience with those who are gifted in these areas. It's definitely inspired me to grab a few astrology books and find out what they have to say about my own life.

As an individual who is learning Astrology themselves, I really appreciated seeing things through another person's point of view and seeing their journey. It is also very interesting to see how a medical doctor views astrology and its' applications to their career.

I have always believed there was something to astrology. I was young when I started reading my horoscope in the paper and referencing the information in the Farmer's Almanac for predictions - enjoying all the squiggly lines representing the signs that could tell a farmer when it was best to plant.

Alicia Blando's book, Open for Interpretation, tells her journey of both medicine and astrology. You get to follow in her footsteps as she finishes her schooling, begins her career and finds her new interest in astrology.

This book is a good read for anyone questioning if there is more to life than what we see. Actually it is a good book for anyone who questions.

As we follow Dr. Blando through her life and travels we get to join her as she puts pieces of her personal puzzle together. From the AIDS epidemic to Machu Pichu you will read first-hand accounts of the things she has witnessed.

If you are not well versed in astrology you will learn some basic things from the book about rising signs, start charts and those types of things. It may pique your interest in knowing more. That can only be described as a good thing. Make sure the information you find is of good quality - preferably first hand and not via the internet which is full of misinformation on every topic.

I gave the book only 4 stars because it actually was not the book I was hoping it would be. I wanted to see a medical professional use astrological learning in the course of their medical practice - even if it was just to note that full moons really do cause crazy things in the ER. This is not what Dr. Blando is about, or if she has done it she doesn't mention it in the book.

I suppose it isn't the book's fault that it wasn't what I was hoping for, but I still waited for a connection between her worlds that never came and left disappointed at the last page. I am still glad to have read it and have come away with food for thought.
