An edited selection of relevant writing about Los Angeles, presumably for the newcomer. The pages are broken down into very short and readable chapters: Essentials, Neighborhoods, Almanac, Maps, Interviews, and Essays. The essays describe films, urban sprawl, and the LA riots. This book is pocket size but the quality of construction is high with great graphic design and fonts. Some simple illustrations breakup the text nicely. Los Angeles restauant listings are a notorious waste of time in guide books since the LA City Council tries their level best to destroy anything desirable and worthwhile as soon as they can. Those listed here might still be around if there is a reprinting or altogether new edition. I recommend this book as it is inexpensive, reable, and probably actually interesting for long-time residents.… (more)
