For those of us who were teenagers in the 1980s, we know there was a particular difficulty trying to be a individual during that era. Specific social norms were set out and – no doubt – the scars from trying to be ourselves AND being liked by our peers still show on us today. Janet E. I wanted to like this because of all the praise but I got 108 pages in and realised that while it's a well-written book it was dredging up some of the morass from my teen years that is best left undisturbed. I may return to it when I'm in a better mental space but right now it was adding to my down.
