Pretty basic DIY sailboat repair manual focusing on traditional polyester resin FRP construction. This book is pretty useless now days as most people will go to Youtube if they want info and people willing to do their own repairs probably already know everything in this book. People that are unwilling to do their own repairs wont want to learn lest they get their hands sticky.

Our copy of this book is dirty, kind of beat up, and splattered with grease and epoxy. I used this book as my companion while we brought our 40 year old sailboat to life. Our boating guru returns with this book and it really is – a sensible approach, and yes it does help if you have actually read Thoreau’s works.(My favorite is Cape Cod)

Full of Casey’s practical knowledge and experience this book is an enticement to at least dream of cruising, if not to pack up and go! Like the Authors other books (his This Old Boat is almost a boating bible) it reads well, is loaded with ‘why didn’t I think of that’ ideas on boat improvements and really does reflect a thoughtful approach to boating.

Good read and a book to treasure, for rereading.

Don Casey is the Guru of practical boating and sensible cruising (The Thoreau Approach is another of his works that demonstrate this) and this was his first book. It recounts from a straight forward narrative the rebuilding of a basic cruiser.
However; it is so loaded with sound advice and practical hints on woodworking, glassing, fittings and cruising comforts it offers far more than a simple renovation guide. His good writing led to other books, articles and regular columns in the sailing, cruising and boating world.… (more)
